John Uwizeye has been appointed new Bboxx Rwanda MD. The announcement follows a year of significant growth within Bboxx, Africa’s leading super platform that is committed to transforming lives and unlocking potential by providing access to essential products and services like clean energy, clean cooking, mobile technology, and financial services.
John joined Bboxx Rwanda in 2016 as a Retail Manager and was later promoted to Head of Retail Operations. Under this role, John has also been at the centre of Bboxx Rwanda’s daily operations. He has overseen the company’s growth and is a key player in ensuring Bboxx’ s market leadership in the country.
After 9 years of dedicated service in Rwanda, his predecessor, Justus Mucyo will be joining Bboxx Kenya as Managing Director. Justus joined Bboxx Rwanda at the very start of its operations and has led the company from its very first customer to now providing electricity to half a million people. During his tenure, Justus also led the private sector energy leader’s association in advocating for policies to end energy poverty in Rwanda.
The change follows major investments by Bboxx in the year 2022. In Rwanda, the company launched Bboxx Connect, Bboxx Cook and E-mobility to enable customers to access pay as you go smart phones, LPG Stoves and electric motorcycles; thereby expanding the footprint from Solar Home Systems (SHS) where they are the market leader. Globally, Bboxx recently acquired PEG, a solar energy pioneer in West Africa with operations in 4 countries: Senegal, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Mali bringing the Bboxx’s pan-African footprint to 4000 employees and 3.5 million beneficiaries in 10 countries.
The company aims to transform the continent’s utility sector by becoming the largest network for clean utility services and an enabler of access to goods and services for underserved communities.
